On Thursday 12 October, the Education & Research Day took place at our Hotel Management School in Leeuwarden. It was a successful day during which we welcomed around 140 colleagues from Hotel School Saxion, Maastricht, Breda, and Den Haag.

The hospitality industry is evolving rapidly, and instead of worrying about these changes, it’s better to embrace them. Hence, the theme of the day was ‘Embrace the Future.’ The event featured two keynote speakers who were perfectly aligned with this theme. Our colleague, Dr. Ian Yeoman, delivered a presentation with the intriguing title: ‘What will you be having for dinner in 2075?’. Changes in diet, agricultural production processes, climate change, scientific advancement, and consumer preferences all contribute to changes in food production, consumption, and what you’ll be having for dinner. Following this, Nancy Rademaker discussed ‘the power of Artificial Intelligence’ in her presentation. She talked about how Artificial Intelligence can help boost your business, from gaining exponential improvements in efficiency to acquiring deeper customer knowledge.

The afternoon session was dedicated to workshops covering topics such as VR, AI, and robotics, Design Based Education, Future of Food, Sustainable Development Initiatives, and Hospitality & Security. All participants were highly enthusiastic about the program. It was a day filled with knowledge-sharing and ample networking opportunities.
