In an in-depth interview with Goran Rihelj of HrTurizam.hr, Professor Ian Yeoman provides his opinion on the future of hospitality and tourism in Croatia advocating the most realistic proposition is an adapted model of mass tourism given the importance of the industry to the country. In the interview, Professor Yeoman explores the country’s vision of the future for tourism, which will define the competitiveness of the destination over the coming years. How Croatia will adapt to climate change, new markets, technology, seasonality and labour supply.
What Professor Yeoman emphasized is how the country will measure success as;
Success does not have to be measured through volume and solely from an economic perspective. It all depends on how you define success through community, culture and social aspects. The entire regenerative tourism movement focuses precisely on people and communities. The question is what value do you want tourism to bring? This is a strategic decision for Croatia, because both models, mass and regenerative tourism, can work together.
