Stayokay Terschelling is partnering with our professional doctorate (PD) candidate Judith Ogink to advance sustainability by eliminating single‑use plastic, particularly from school-trip lunch boxes. Under her project “The Plastic Soup Experience,” students are encouraged to bring their own cups, and Stayokay is supporting by sharing data and organising pupil focus groups. The collaboration is operationally driven: hostel manager Martine van de Velde highlights that a PD offers more immediate, tangible results than a traditional PhD, such as phasing out plastic packaging and exploring sustainable alternatives for snacks.

If successful, this intervention model could be scaled across about 20 Stayokay hostels, with the involvement of location managers considered crucial.
