Thursday 10 April marked the official launch of Hotel Management School Leeuwarden’s presence in Amsterdam, with an inspiring event at Hotel Arena attended by around fifty key figures from the hospitality industry and education sector. The gathering focused on the future of hospitality education and celebrated the introduction of the new Work & Study Associate Degree programme, which will start in Amsterdam in September 2025.
This two-year higher education programme allows employees to pursue a degree at HBO level without having to stop working, benefiting both employees and employers. With this programme, we are responding to a long-standing demand from the hospitality industry in Amsterdam for a training programme tailored to the talent within their organisations. It offers employees the chance to grow and develop, while providing employers with a tool to invest in their workforce and retain valuable staff.
At HMS Leeuwarden, the hospitality industry is at the core of our educational approach. Rather than treating education and the industry as two separate worlds—where students only enter the professional field after graduation—we believe in involving the sector from day one. In the Work & Study programme, these worlds are constantly brought together: everything students learn during class is immediately applied in practice. In this way, we work together on developing talent within the industry.
The launch was more than just a formal introduction – it was a moment of meaningful exchange. Attendees shared ideas, asked critical questions, and voiced positive reactions to this collaborative step forward.
With such a successful start, we are ready to shape the next generation of hospitality professionals in the Randstad region.
